Open up a new blender file.

Delete the cube (Right click the cube and press
X).
·
Add a circle, go to toolbox and change fill type
to ngon. (Blender 2.62 and before- check fill)
(Blue pen - toolbox)

Press Tab to go to edit mode
·
Select All vertices (press A) and Extrude them
in Z axis (press E and then Z and then type 1.2 and click once).

Press E again and this time Esc. Now press S
(scale) and type 0.9 (When a vertex is extruded, it cannot be deleted by
pressing Esc, it’ll only go to the default position)
·
Extrude again, in the Z axis and type 1.5
·
Scale (S) it for a value of 1.5.
·
Add a loopcut (Ctrl+R) (horizontally) click once
and type 0.35
·
Scale it (1.5 will do)
·
This will be the lower half of the hourglass.
·
To make the upper half-
·
Select All vertices (A) in the right
orthographic view (press Numpad 3 and Numpad 5 (Or else click view > Right
> View Persp/Ortho)).
·
Grab all vertices in Z axis (move – G and then
Z) A value of – 6.12 worked for me, and press Tab.
·
What we did now was to move the small circle to
the origin of the clock.
·
Now go to modifiers tab in Properties menu –
·
Add mirror modifier and uncheck X and check Z
·
Now, to make it look better, click smooth in the
tool box (see above)
·
And Add another modifier, this time subdivision
surface (hereafter referred to as subsurf modifier)
·
Give view 2 and render 3
·
Add another loopcut (Ctrl+R) and give value –0.8
·
Scale it inwards (S ; 0.7)
·
Now to separate the glass frm the base,
Add a loopcut between the curvature of the
glass & the base give a value of 1
You can scale up the base if you
wish to….
The Finished result....
